In memory of Gerry Bowden and Patricia Cox

It is with much sadness that we announce the deaths of a former trustee of the Dulwich Almshouse Charity (DAC), Mr Gerald (Gerry) Bowden; and a current trustee, Mrs Patricia Cox (née Edwards). Gerry and Pat both passed away in January 2020.

Gerry Bowden
Gerry had represented Dulwich on the Greater London Council from 1977 - 81 and was MP for Dulwich from 1983 - 1992. Gerry was a trustee of the DAC from 2003 - 2013 and a trustee of The Dulwich Estate from 1992 - 2005. His contribution to the DAC was highly valued and he maintained an interest in our work in recent years. He will be missed.

Patricia (Pat) Cox
Pat was nominated as a trustee of the DAC by the Camberwell Consolidated Charity in 2012 and made a significant contribution to the DAC’s work in the intervening years. Since 2017 she also served as a trustee for The Dulwich Estate, as well as a number of other local charities. Pat was a former barrister and brought her sharp legal mind to her trustee responsibilities.

In the 2018 New Year’s Honours list Pat’s contribution to charitable work was recognised and she was awarded a Medal of the Order of the British Empire (BEM).

Pat was immensely hardworking and a powerful advocate for the DAC’s work and our beneficiaries. She had a wonderful sense of humour and will be sorely missed by us all.
